Hoeneß and Eberl are out of the U19s

FC Bayern’s U19s made it to the quarter-finals of the Youth League for the first time. The deciding game in Munich was disappointing – in front of the concentrated club celebrities.

FC Bayern Munich’s U19 Youth League title dream is over. Coach René Marić’s team failed in the quarterfinals at home on campus against the Greek representative Olympiakos Piraeus with 1:3 (0:3).

This makes FSV Mainz 05 the last remaining German representative in the competition. The new “Bruchweg Boys”, who have already eliminated the likes of FC Barcelona and Manchester City, will meet FC Porto in their quarter-finals on Wednesday (6 p.m.).

Bayern squandered their hopes under the eyes of the concentrated club celebrities. Honorary president Uli Hoeneß, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, sports director Max Eberl, coach Thomas Tuchel and sports director Christoph Freund, who is the only one of those mentioned who is on site at almost all U19 games anyway, sat in the stands in the campus stadium. After a good start, they saw a period of weakness for the Munich youth team in the first half. The guests used this to score three goals within eight minutes.

Shortly before the break, Piraeus coach Sotiris Sylaidopoulos saw red. After the break, almost only Munich played, but only U17 world champion Robert Ramsak (63.), who will leave the club in the summer and move to RB Leipzig, took advantage of one numerous chances to score.
