FOOTBALL – The HODO championship is getting closer by the week. The team from Hollandscheveld won well against Raptim from Coevorden this afternoon and thus further extends its lead in the third division D: 4-1.

The team of trainer Eric Prins only lost once this season and that was against Raptim. Earlier this season it was 2-0. So there was something to put right for the frontrunner. After a weak opening phase, the lead came out of the blue for HODO. Stefan Rikkert popped a falling ball behind goalkeeper Hoegen. Moments later, the goalkeeper was transfixed by Jorn Smit’s 2-0, who fired a beautiful free kick into the net.

Voltage back

Yet Raptim could still hope for more, because just before halftime it suddenly became 2-1 against Marnix Leferink. As a result, the tension was back for a while, but disappeared like snow in the sun just after rest. It became 3-1 for HODO thanks to a header by Patrick Timmerman. Raptim couldn’t get over that blow. In the final phase it even became 4-1. It was again Jorn Smit who hit the target after a self-initiated attack.

The win brings the championship one step closer for HODO. The team is now thirteen points ahead of pursuer Oldeholtpade. Raptim drops one spot in the ranking and is now fifth.
