Hockey players for the third time in a row world champion

The Dutch hockey players have become world champions for the third time in a row. The Orange squad was 3-1 too strong for Argentina in the Spanish Terrassa.

Maria Verschoor gave the Orange squad the lead after more than fifteen minutes by tapping in from close range after a penalty corner by Yibbi Jansen had stuck. Shortly afterwards, Frédérique Matla doubled the lead by hitting hard with her backhand. Felice Albers put the favorite after a nice breakout at 3-0, after which Agustina Gorzelany reduced the tension somewhat by pushing a hit from a penalty corner.

The final battle was played in Catalonia, where the Orange squad defeated Australia (1-0) in the last four on Saturday. The Netherlands played the group matches and the quarterfinals in the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen.

The final of the World Cup marked the last game of interim national coach Jamilon Mülders. He is replaced by Paul van Ass.
