Because Bruges is part of the UNESCO World Heritage, solar panels cannot just be placed everywhere. They must meet strict quality conditions and may not be visible from the public domain. However, the permit application can be a time -consuming and complex process, so that many residents drop out.

Coopstroom wants to change that. “We help residents with the full file,” says coordinator Shirley Leyman. “That requires a building plan on a scale with the registration of the solar panels. For many homes, those plans do not exist, so we go on the spot to do the measurements. That requires a lot of work.”
