Historic gold for Femke Bol in 400 meters hurdles during World Athletics Championships

Femke Bol (23) won gold in the 400 meters hurdles for the first time in her career at the World Athletics Championships.

The top favorite gave the Netherlands a historic medal in Budapest: the Netherlands has never delivered a world champion at this distance. She ran 51.70 seconds, her second time ever.

She is only the fourth Dutch world champion ever at the World Athletics Championships. Dutch world champions are rare, because Bol is only the number four of a very select group.

The World Athletics Championships have only been organized since 1983. Only (Rens Blom 2005), (Dafne Schippers, 2015 and 2017) and Sifan Hassan (2019) ever managed to achieve this.
