“HipHop – Made in Germany”: ARD series about German rap comes in January

Starting in the 80s, the documentary series sheds light on the rap scene. Start date: January 23rd.

“HipHop – Made in Germany” looks at the development of the German rap scene, summarizes achievements and looks at the current changes together with rappers. From January 23, 2024 you can watch the hip-hop series in the ARD media library.

Four decades of German hip hop history are examined in a total of four episodes. Artists such as Kitty Kat, Liz, Eunique, T-Low and Eko Fresh comment on this. Starting with the 80s in Heidelberg, the early phase of German rap. Details about this will be provided by Toni-L from Advanced Chemistry and Martin Stieber from the Stieber Twins.

In the following we go from Heidelberg to Hamburg to reflect on the 90s and, together with Eunique, who was born in Hamburg, to find out more about everyday life in the hip-hop world, the record shops and the time after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

In the third episode, the focus is on the capital and the influence of Aggro Berlin on the scene. You also get Kitty Kat, who was one of the few women in the 2000s who was part of the rap scene and published music on the Aggro Berlin label.

“HipHop – Made in Germany” concludes with the 2010s in Frankfurt. Accompanied by the rap duo Celo & Abdi, the timeline is looked at up to today and the changes, the role models and Frankfurt street rap are analyzed.
