The Biathlon Stadium in Otepää

As of: March 30, 2026 • 11:34 a.m

The winter sports season is history. The athletes are going on a well-deserved vacation, the spectators are taking a forced break. The fans have to be patient until the end of October, then the next winter starts – with many highlights and world championships. Here is the overview.

Four Hills Tournament: 29/30 December 2026 to 6/7 January 2027

As every year, the first highlight of the season in ski jumping is the Four Hills Tournament around the turn of the year. And it is already clear that the 75th edition will be a special one. For the first time, after a long fight for equality on the hills, the women are also taking part alongside the men at the four stations in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen.

According to the current status, the women’s competitions should take place on the men’s qualification day at all tour locations. So far there has only been a two-night tour for women at the German Four Hills Tournament locations of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberstdorf.

Alpine Ski World Championships: February 1st to 14th, 2027

After exactly 40 years, the Alpine World Championships are taking place again in Crans-Montana. As in 1987, the World Championship titles will be awarded on the “National” and “Mont Lachaux” slopes, which share the same finish stadium.

Switzerland is hoping for a spectacle at its home World Cup. Marco Odermatt, Franjo van Allmen and Co. are considered big favorites in advance. From a German perspective, hopes rest on all-rounder Emma Aicher, speed rider Kira Weidle-Winkelmann and the slalom specialists Lena Dürr and Linus Straßer.

Biathlon World Cup: February 8th to 21st, 2027

Otepää will host a Biathlon World Championships for the first time in 2027. In the Estonian winter sports stronghold, the competitions take place from February 8th to 21st. The community in the south of Estonia, which numbers just under 6,200 people, is already prepared for the World Cup races thanks to its many years of World Cup experience.

At the dress rehearsal in March 2026, the athletes in the World Cup races were particularly troubled by the treacherous wind at the shooting range. Philipp Nawrath achieved a strong result in third place in the sprint. From a German perspective, hopes lie primarily in the relays. The big favorites for men and women once again come from France and Norway.

Nordic World Ski Championships: February 24th to March 7th, 2027

The World Championships for ski jumping, cross-country skiing and Nordic combined skiing take place every two years. In 2027, Sweden’s Falun will be aiming for World Cup medals again. The small town in the province of Dalarna with a great winter sports tradition is hosting the major event for the fifth time after 1954, 1974, 1993 and 2015.

At the last World Cup, the German athletes were only able to win gold in the Nordic Combined team competition. In men’s cross-country skiing, all eyes will once again be on the exceptional athlete Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo. From the hosts’ perspective, their hopes rest on the strong cross-country skiers around Jonna Sundling and Frida Karlsson.

Toboggan World Championships: February 1st to 7th, 2027

The 54th Luge World Championships will be held at the beginning of February on the newly renovated Olympic ice track in Innsbruck-Igls, Austria. This is the eighth time Austria has hosted a world championship in luge. In 2027, the tobogganing for World Cup medals will take place at the foot of the Patscherkofel for the sixth time in six decades.

The German athletes are starting as big favorites. In the men’s category, Olympic champion Max Langenhan is the defending champion; in the women’s category, Julia Taubitz is dreaming of her next World Cup medal after winning Olympic gold. But the traditionally strong hosts from Austria should also have a say in the title.

Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships: February 15th to 28th, 2027

The title fights between the world’s best bobsleigh and skeleton athletes will take place in 2027 in the Norwegian winter sports mecca Lillehammer in the 1994 Olympic ice track.”For Lillehammer, this is an opportunity to show the world that our Olympic legacy is still very much alive“, announced Åshild Höva Sporsheim, general secretary of the Norwegian association, in advance.

In fact, Lillehammer has been a fixture on the World Cup calendar for bobsleigh and skeleton drivers for years – also for the German pilots, who once again start as big favorites, especially in the bobsleigh. Above all, record world champion Francesco Friedrich wants to further expand his impressive World Cup medal collection. Olympic champion Laura Nolte is the big favorite among women.

Bobsleigh pilot Francesco Friedrich is already a record world champion. He recently left it open whether he would aim for further records in the coming season.

Ski Freestyle and Snowboard World Championships: March 6th to 21st, 2027

The Ski and Snowboard Cross World Championships will take place in Montafon in March: medals will be at stake from March 6th to 21st. Then the Grasjoch near St. Gallenkirch becomes the epicenter of freestyle sports. The best of the best will fight for the world title in the disciplines slopestyle, halfpipe, big air, cross, parallel giant slalom, parallel slalom, aerials and moguls.

Figure Skating World Championships: March 16 to 21, 2027

In the Finnish city of Tampere from March 24th to 30th, 2025, the skate stars will float across the ice and search for the new title holders at the 116th World Figure Skating Championships. For Tampere it is the first figure skating world championships. The world title fights have been held in Finland five times – most recently in 2017.
