High milk price is killing cheese farms: ‘It shouldn’t get crazier, otherwise we’ll stop’ | Zwolle

The milk price has risen so fast in recent years that it is becoming increasingly difficult for cheese farms to earn something from their artisanal cheese. The price is kept artificially (too) low in order to face up to the competition with the supermarket and not to drive up costs for customers. Cheese farm Kloas in ‘t Hof also earns next to nothing with it, says owner Cyril in ‘t Hof. “It shouldn’t get crazier, it’s less and less fun to make cheese yourself.”
