Hesburger has once again launched a vegetarian burger that does not contain any ingredients of animal origin.

The fast food chain Hesburger has once again introduced a plant-based hamburger to its standard selection. The chain’s previous plant-based Veke soy veggie burger was discontinued at the end of September 2024, at the same time the chain launched the Veke veggie layer burger.

The Veke veggie burger contains a veggie patty, but also cheddar cheese and mayonnaise with egg, so the product is not suitable for vegans. The chain’s decision to remove the only plant-based burger from the selection caused a stir, and among other things, a food influencer Hanna Hurta wondered about the hamburger chain’s decision.

It is reported from Hesburger that feedback from consumers has influenced the decision to bring a plant-based hamburger back to the list.

– We want to serve all our customers as well as possible and offer them different product options. We have received feedback from our customers who have wished for a hamburger in our selection that does not contain any animal-derived ingredients. The requests have been heard and the Veke veggie burger has now been added to the standard selection, says Hesburger’s product development and quality manager Fairy tale Heather.

The novelty hamburger uses the same vegetable patty as the vegetable layered hamburger launched in the fall. The steaks are made in Kaarina at Hesburger’s own factory, and a patent has been applied for.

– This has been a really interesting journey. We have worked hard for this. We have tried different main ingredients and a lot of different flavoring substances and their combinations in order to find the best end result. These are all separate things that need to be combined, said Hesburger’s product developer Eemeli Harinen For Pippuri.fi in September 2024.

Although the new Veke veggie burger does not contain ingredients of animal origin, the veggie patty is fried in the same oil as the meat products. That’s why Hesburger doesn’t call the hamburger vegan.
