Hertha BSC vs. Lars Windhorst: mud fight escalates

A film project that was stopped months ago has caused a new dispute between the executive board and investor Lars Windhorst with his Tennor Group at the Bundesliga club Hertha BSC, which is in acute danger of being relegated.

The Bureau reacted angrily to statements by a spokesman for the group. “On the one hand, we do not think this route via the public is expedient. On the other hand, unspecific allegations and insinuations have repeatedly been made,” said a statement by the executive committee on the association’s website. “These not only damage the reputation of Hertha BSC, but also the investment by Tennor Holding.”

Tennor spokesman Andreas Fritzenkötter had previously told the “dpa”: “The next general meeting is in May. Something will definitely have to happen there.” With this wording, a limit was exceeded in relation to the autonomy of the highest association body, the Hertha Executive Committee explained. “We appeal again in the common interest of Hertha BSC to address and discuss different views internally in the future,” it said.

Discrepancies in plans via documentation

Actually, according to a report by “Sport Bild”, it was initially about discrepancies in the plans for a documentary about Hertha, which were stopped last summer. “The aim was to sell the film to streaming services like Amazon in order to spice up Hertha as a brand internationally,” said Fritzenkötter.

The production company Pulse Films and Hertha legend Axel Kruse as a link accompanied the team over a longer period of time and produced inner insights within the team and the environment. But Windhorst, who invested around one million euros, did not like some passages. “In the passages, a member of the management described Mr. Windhorst as unsympathetic, and Windhorst was made fun of in the group,” Fritzenkötter explains the production stop, “the passages were not suitable for being shown in a commercial about Hertha.”

No agreement between the parties

Both parties could not agree on continuing the project under a new direction, which, according to Fritzenkötter, sealed the end of the film: “We then weighed it up: editing is practically impossible and costs additional money. Then we’ll leave it.” Disturbances in dealings between the club and the investor accompany the partnership continuously, which surprised Fritzenkötter from the start: “We didn’t think and were surprised that Hertha would slam the doors after we got involved.”

Actually, Hertha has just enough other worries: started to set up an energetic team with 375 million euros from the investor, the Berliners are on the relegation rank with 23 points, one point before the first relegation zone – class struggle instead of “Big City Club “.

Although Fritzenkötter classifies the theater around the concept of the big capital city club differently and also documents a certain disagreement in this way: “It is always claimed that the term “Big City Club” comes from Windhorst. The management of Hertha or that commissioned by Hertha Agency in the investor brochure, before Tennor’s entry, first mentioned the Big Club.”
