U21 national player Marton Dardai (21) from the second division soccer team Hertha BSC has decided against a future in the DFB jersey.
As the defender announced on Monday via Instagram, he wants to play for Germany’s European Championship group opponents Hungary instead. Hungary is the home country of his father and trainer Pal, and his older brother Palko had also already decided to come to Hungary.
“I know that I also owe my career to the German youth national teams, and for that I say thank you!” Dardai wrote: “But the decision is also an absolute matter of the heart, and that’s why I’m incredibly happy to be working for my home country in the future parents.”
Dardai made a total of 24 appearances for German junior teams. The Berlin native has appeared eight times for the U21 since 2022.
