With striker Sebastian Grönning (28, comes from FC Ingolstadt) Hertha BSC officially presented the first new addition for the coming season last week. Further transfers such as the Niklas Kolbe (28, Ulm) from central defender should also be about to be completed. Apparently this also applies to Leon Jensen from Karlsruher SC.

According to “Sky”, the 27 -year -old midfielder signed his contract on Tuesday until 2027 (with an option for another year) in Berlin and switched to Hertha in summer. Already in February there were reports on advanced discussions that were now apparently successful. Like Grönning, Jensen is free of charge after his end of the contract.

The midfielder grew up in Berlin and played for Hertha U19 from 2014 to 2016. In the past, Jensen openly admitted that he still has sympathy for his former club. “Everyone who knows me knows how important Hertha BSC is for me. It is the club with which I grew up that played the biggest role in my career for me,” said Jensen in November 2023 in “Tagesspiegel” interview. However, he had no perspective with the old lady. “But it is also clear that I would like to continue to run for Hertha at the time. That won’t change for me as a Berliner either. (…) I think every boy dreams of being able to appear for his home club in his home stadium.”

In Karlsruhe, Jensen has developed into a seasoned second division professional in recent years. So far, there are ten goals and six templates in 78 missions for the KSC, to which he came from the 3rd division from FSV Zwickau in 2021. Its market value broke the mark of one million euros for the first time this season. At Hertha, Jensen is part of a whole series of players who have been signed at zero in recent years. Since relegation in 2023, twelve of the 20 new additions have come to Berlin without a transfer.
