Hertha BSC is in great danger of relegation. The defeat against Leipzig increased the worries. How things will continue, what can lead to the better for the Berliners – currently completely unclear.
It was a week that Hertha BSC would rather forget quickly. First the bitter 2-1 defeat against bottom of the table Greuther Fürth, then the statements by Lars Windhorst, who described his investment in the Berliners as a mistake – and then on Sunday the violent 6-1 beating in front of a home crowd in the Olympic Stadium. Hertha’s path is currently only pointing in one direction: downwards.
The advantage over the relegation place is only one point, over a direct relegation zone it is four points. “We are brutally disappointed. The result is amazing when you look at the game,” said sports boss Fredi Bobic. Hertha got off to a good start after the break and even made it 1-1 through Stevan Jovetić. But after the red card for Marc Oliver Kempf, the Berliners collapsed and conceded five more goals.

Even the most loyal followers probably lack the imagination at the moment how a change for the better can be managed. Under coach Tayfun the club picked up nine points from ten games, under predecessor Pál Dárdai it was 14 points from 13 games. However, there will be no trainer discussion. He was “very clear” and “dealt with the boys in the right tone,” said Bobic. Korkut has “a clear plan”.
Hertha needs that too. Because the next game has it all: It goes to Freiburg. Hertha has not won there since 2010. After that there were four draws and four defeats. Then there are all the Corona failures – coach Korkut is missing eight players. Optimal preparation for the important game is hardly possible. “We’re not complaining, we’re moving forward positively,” stressed Bobic. And Korkut said: “Of course it’s not good for us, but it won’t knock us out.”
Hertha stumbles. In order for the club not to go knockout, victories must finally come. Otherwise there will be a rude awakening at the end of the season.
