Michal Karbownik is currently an integral part of Hertha BSC: The Polish left-back, who moved from Brighton to the Spree in 2023, has been firmly in coach Stefan Leitl’s starting line-up since matchday 9. According to a report in the “Bild” newspaper, the second division club wants to extend the 24-year-old’s expiring contract as quickly as possible.

The coach has already personally conveyed this concern to his protégé, the paper writes. Accordingly, discussions with sports director Benjamin Weber should start soon. Karbownik is also exploring the market with a view to his final working paper. Since moving from the island, the four-time Poland national player has played 68 games for the capital club, in which he contributed five scorers.

Last fall, Weber said the professional had “a lot of potential,” but also made it clear that this didn’t come through too often. “For Michal, it’s about converting the good approaches into consistent game performance. He can break up situations even in tight spaces, create new situations with his ball security and dynamism in the continuation of the game and give us a lot in terms of play – no matter what position,” said the sports director at the time. Now the breakthrough seems to have occurred in the third year at Hertha and Karbownik has a future in Berlin.

Future at Hertha BSC open: Klemens changes advisor

Meanwhile, the future of defensive colleague Pascal Klemens is also open. The 20-year-old’s contract also expires. After a long-term ankle injury, Klemens recently made it back into the starting line-up. With an eye on his future, he has now repositioned himself. From now on, Klemens will be advised by the Sports360 agency, which counts Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller (24) and Bavaria’s Tom Bischof (20) among its clients.
