Hertha BSC: Coach Korkut appeals to team spirit after Fürth’s bankruptcy

After bankruptcy in Fürth

The trend at Hertha BSC is clearly going down: After the defeat against Greuther Fürth, bottom of the table, the Berliners are only one point away from the relegation place, with 45 goals conceded, they have the weakest defense in the league after the game association, in 2022 the team of coach Tayfun succeeded Korkut still no victory. The 47-year-old demands a quick change in mentality from his team in the Bundesliga relegation battle.

“We expect the team to get closer. At the end of the day, when a team is in a difficult situation, they have to get out of it themselves, so every player has to regulate their sensitivities again, and also make sure that they submit to the team,” said Korkut.

“We put ourselves in such a situation, and now completely different things await us, we discussed that with clarity,” reported Korkut from a team meeting on Sunday morning before a 45-minute endurance run on the Olympic grounds.

With only two points from the last five games, Hertha is currently one of four German teams in the 20 weakest teams in Europe’s top 5 leagues, alongside Aue, Stuttgart and Würzburg. After ten games in office and a record of 0.9 points per game, Korkut has one of the weakest point averages in Hertha’s coaching history to date. Of the last nine Hertha coaches, only Otto Rehhagel scored fewer points on average.

In view of the current situation, the trainer does not think much of activism. It’s not about “yelling around or playing the jumping jack.” Instead, you have to “take countermeasures as quickly as possible to score points,” said Korkut.

Hertha BSC: Korkut hopes for a comeback against RB Leipzig

For the upcoming Bundesliga game next Sunday (from 7:30 p.m. in the TM live ticker) against the “big chunk” RB Leipzig, the Hertha coach is also counting on the return of central defender Marc Oliver Kempf. The central defender was one of four newcomers in the past winter transfer window for a fee of around 500,000 euros from league competitor VfB Stuttgart to the Spree and had played through in the draw against Bochum the previous week before a corona disease put him out of action.

“Marc will be back early in the week when he’s cleared. I’m confident that at least there won’t be a relapse for the weekend,” said Korkut.
