Hertha BSC celebrates in the relegation battle – VfB Stuttgart misses out on victory

Hertha BSC has achieved a liberation in the relegation battle. Coach Felix Magath’s team narrowly won in the basement duel at FC Augsburg. VfB Stuttgart, on the other hand, missed important points in Mainz.

Hertha from Berlin is back in business in the relegation battle. Coach Felix Magath’s team fought a narrow 1-0 win at FC Augsburg (0-0). Suat Serdar cheered the traveling fans with a brilliant back-heel shortly after the break (49th minute).

Due to the success, the Berliners jump to 15th place, at least temporarily, the first non-relegation place. Should Arminia Bielefeld not win against FC Bayern on Sunday, BSC would end the match day in this position.

One person’s joy is another’s sorrow, because the Berlin victory at FCA means that VfB Stuttgart is back in the relegation zone. The Swabians did not get more than 0-0 in Mainz in summery weather. VfB’s lead over Bielefeld is now at least two points, and the gap to Hertha is one.

In the other Saturday games, two teams celebrated clear victories. While SC Freiburg lived up to their role as favorites by beating VfL Bochum 3-0 (2-0) and can now even dream of the Champions League, Borussia from Dortmund managed a 6-1 win a week before the “top game” in Munich -Bully victory against VfL Wolfsburg. In the duel with the promoted team from Bochum, who played strongly this season, Freiburg made things clear. Lukas Kübler (4th) and Roland Sallai (16th) scored the two Freiburg goals. The sports club was compact and increased again in the second round through Sallai to 3-0 (53rd).

Bochum themselves hardly scored goals – and had to end the game with a man less. Konstantinos Stafylidis saw the red card in the 68th minute for an unnecessary foul play. Bochum coach Thomas Reis was so upset about the sending off that referee Sascha Stegemann sent him off shortly afterwards (70′).

While VfL are in the secure middle field with 36 points (eight points ahead of the relegation place) despite the clear bankruptcy, Freiburg are now tied in fifth place with Rasenballsport Leipzig (51 points), who will be visiting Bayer Leverkusen tomorrow.
