Lars Windhorst’s escape from Hertha BSC, triggered by the espionage scandal he started, puts the recent history of Hertha BSC in a different light.

Windhorst’s accusation that then-President Werner Gegenbauer was the club’s problem now turns out to be clumsy fraud.

After his resignation in May 2022, Gegenbauer had stated in BILD that there had been no personal conflict between him and the investor. Windhorst was only concerned with influence and power at Hertha BSC.

Gegenbauer was right with these statements. Recent events confirm this.

In his farewell statement, Windhorst, also new President Bernstein, who has only been in office for a good 100 days, announces that he is not the right person.

Who should still believe these statements?

Now it’s clear: Gegenbauer has protected Hertha BSC from being attacked by Windhorst. And at the same time collected the agreed 374 million euros for Hertha. A remarkable achievement.

Kay Bernstein, on the other hand, hastily called for Gegenbauer to be voted out of office and blamed him – and was also elected to office on the basis of this allegation.

Now the new president has to show that he can master this serious crisis, which Gegenbauer had foreseen.
