After the voluntary resignation of CEO Carsten Schmidt (58) in October 2021, Hertha BSC is increasing again to the position of managing director!
Thomas E. Herrich (58), a member of Hertha’s management, previously the club’s authorized signatory and lawyer, has now been promoted to third managing director with immediate effect.
Herrich is now on an equal footing with the two previous managing directors Fredi Bobic (50/Sport) and Ingo Schiller (56/Finance), who, as is well known, will terminate his contract prematurely at the end of October (until summer 2023).

With all-rounder Herrich, Hertha is now well secured for further surprises at all levels – a man for all eventualities!
Thomas E. Herrich was appointed following a unanimous decision by the Executive Committee in close coordination with the newly elected Supervisory Board, which also unanimously approved the appointment on Tuesday.
► The new supervisory board boss Klaus Brüggemann says: “With Tom Herrich, we have had an absolute manager with a remarkable CV in our ranks for many years, who we trust, especially in this difficult phase of the club, to set the necessary course for a successful future of our club without a long start-up period.”
Herrich has worked for Hertha for over 18 years. In addition to his professional qualifications as a graduate business economist, qualified lawyer and licensed attorney, he has extensive professional experience and market knowledge in the sports sector. He is also a committee member of the DFL and the DFB. He has also been in charge of Marketing Club Berlin eV as President for several years

► Hertha’s presidency explains: “We are pleased to be able to appoint an outstandingly qualified and experienced specialist in Tom Herrich as Managing Director of Hertha BSC and we believe that we have found an important piece of the puzzle for a successful future for Hertha BSC. It is well known that you can tell a good captain by his steady hand and not by his loud voice. We are therefore delighted to be able to welcome Tom Herrich on the bridge of our Hertha steamer.”
► Herrich happy: “It is a great honor for me as a Herthaner for many years to be able to serve my heart club in a managerial position as managing director. There are a lot of challenges to overcome in and around our club, so there is no time to waste. I wish to be able to set off into a new, better future for our club together with all Hertha residents!”
By the way: The post of chief executive officer (CEO) – as exercised by Carsten Schmidt in the past – is no longer planned at Hertha for the time being.
