Henry Temmermans suddenly saw a car driving next to him in the grass on the highway. The car did not come to a stop. When he saw that the driver was no longer conscious, he did not hesitate for a moment. Temmermans drove in front of the car in question and let it collide with his own vehicle, after which the cars slowly came to a stop on the side of the road.

Watch here how Henry was previously honored by the municipality of Nunspeet:

Dashboard camera

The incident was filmed with a dashboard camera by a motorist approaching from behind. This driver also stopped to provide first aid. The victim was later found to have minor injuries and, according to the municipality of Nunspeet, is ‘grateful that she survived the accident’. Temmermans’ car could no longer drive, he was given a lift home. His action made a big impression: he was showered with reactions from all over the world.

Medal of Honor

Temmermans was awarded the bronze Honorary Medal for Humanitarian Aid for his deed in the town hall in Nunspeet. The Honorary Medal is the oldest and most important Dutch royal award for brave deeds performed outside a battle. The award is given to ‘those who have committed a charitable act bearing the hallmarks of courage, discretion and self-sacrifice’.
