Hermès appoints Grace Wales Bonner as creative director of ready-to-wear menswear

There is the next change in the luxury industry: British designer Grace Wales Bonner is moving to the French luxury fashion house Hermès. She is taking over the creative management of ready-to-wear men’s fashion there, according to a statement from the fashion house published on Tuesday.

Hermès recognized the designer for her “contemporary and innovative approach to men’s fashion,” which she has pursued and developed over the past decade. Wales Bonner also has a “passion for crafts and culture,” which is also well received at Hermès. Her first collection for the French fashion house will be presented in January 2027.

Wales Bonner has made a name for herself as a men’s fashion designer in recent years. She graduated from the British Academy Central Saint Martins in 2014 and has since received several awards. She won the CFDA Award as “International Men’s Designer of the Year” in 2021 and was named “British Menswear Designer of the Year” in 2024.

In 2025, many top positions in luxury fashion houses have been filled – but mainly by male designers. With Wales Bonner joining Hermès, this imbalance will now be somewhat offset. However, the majority still lies with men.
