Here is HJK’s new head coach

Ferran Sibila, who is unknown to the general public, takes on the responsibility of pulling in a major Finnish club.

The new head coach of the Veikkausliiga reigning champion HJK is Spanish Ferran Sibila. HJK published the matter on Friday.

Sibila arrives in Helsinki from Sweden and replaces the one who is leaving the position after this autumn Toni Korkeakunnsen. The agreement covers the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

The 35-year-old Catalan has most recently worked as a development coach for the big Swedish club Malmö FF. Before Malmö, he worked as an assistant coach for English Barnsley, IFK Göteborg and GIF Sundsvall. In Gothenburg, Sibila was the head coach of the U21 team for a couple of years and for a while the temporary head coach of the representative team.

They are his only washes as a head coach before the HJK deal.

According to IL’s information, Sibila is the new sports director of HJK Vesa Mäken recruitment, and the two have known each other from before.

– Although Ferran has worked in his previous clubs with the title of assistant coach, in practice his responsibility has been to plan the team’s style of play and carry out the related exercises in both Sundsvall, Gothenburg and Barnsley, Mäki said in HJK’s press release.

Sibila is known as the coach of the so-called Ekkono school. The roots of the method in question are in Barcelona.

HJK fired in the summer For Toni Koskela and hired Korkeakunnas to replace him for the rest of the season. Under the leadership of Korkeakunnas, the club won the Finnish championship and advanced to the group stage of the Conference League.

Riihilahti praised, but the departure came

Managing director Aki Riihilahti praised Korkeakunta in a press release. Still, the continuation did not come off.

– Together with the sports management and the chairman, we interviewed half a dozen good candidates, and towards the end of the season we concluded that Toke (Korkeakunnas) would have been the number one change from the domestic ones. The change he implemented this year was very successful.

– However, the club’s will is that we want to take one more step up: We want to get even more out of our resources at home, do a little better on the Euro courts and, in accordance with our strategy, produce even better quality players.
