It had been clear for some time that Hera wanted to take over the license from Telstar from Velsen-Zuid, but a few obstacles still had to be removed. Last June, for example, there had to be a change of rule that made it possible to participate in professional football as an independent women’s club.

The last hurdle was getting a license to play professional football. For this, a license committee of the KNVB first had to assess whether a club meets all rules. That was the case with Hera.

‘Incredibly proud’

With that the club can, about a year and a half after announcing the plansparticipate in the competition. “We are incredibly proud of everyone who has unconditionally supported us in recent years to make our mission possible,” says general manager Susan van Geenen in a press release. In it she thanks, among other things, the players for the patience they have had so far.

Hera consists of a first and second team for the time being. The Youth Academy falls under a partnership with Telstar. From now on, those teams are called Hera-Velstar Training (HTO).

The intention is that the big matches in the Olympic Stadium in Zuid will be played. All other matches are played a little further on the AFC amateur club complex. The first home game, on September 21 against PEC Zwolle, will also take place there.
