Henny Huisman is disappointed that in 2003 he started making the program ‘Henny seeks God’ for the EO on the advice of John de Mol. “Normally I always ask Joop van den Ende for advice.”

Henny Huisman was on television for almost twenty years with the Soundmixshow, the TV talent show of the last century. Since its end in 2002, the presenter has been making all kinds of attempts to stay on television. A year later, in 2003, he completely changed course and suddenly started making religious television: Henny Searches God.

sorry

In retrospect, Henny really regrets that, he says in the Party magazine. “Maybe I shouldn’t have taken that step. As a result, I got so much scum on me and also threats. I was even threatened with death by a religious wappie. A lot of people didn’t understand that I was going to make a program about God.”

He continues: “I am a believer and before God I have no regrets whatsoever about my contributions to the EO; I don’t want to shame Him. But there was a lot of discussion about my role for the broadcaster. I regretted that. Critics have portrayed me in a way that I didn’t want at all.”

Angry at John

It also didn’t fit his identity as a TV presenter at all, admits Henny. “Henny Huisman was established as a show host for the general public. Apparently, when I started making a serious program about God and faith, that identification was lost.”

According to him, it is all because of John de Mol. “Joop van den Ende once said to me: ‘If you had asked me at the time, I would have advised you against it.’ But Joop was ill at the time and I asked John de Mol. He said: ‘I would do it, very nice.’ That didn’t work out very well.”
