To put that in perspective: in the first six months of 2025, just under 64,000 new electric cars were registered in the Netherlands. At the same time, 19,655 EVs disappeared across the border.

Electric cars with a low addition

Is that a problem? Partly, because the majority of those cars come from a lease contract and is probably about four years old, which means that they have benefited from stimulation measures, such as the low addition.

The Dutch government cost billions and were of course intended to bring about the breakthrough of the EV and to reduce the combined CO2 emissions of the fleet. It is therefore a shame that the electric cars that have been put on the road disappear from our country.

Tesla Model 3 most exported

The most exported used EV is the Tesla Model 3 (5,915 copies). Then follow the Kia Niro (1,428), Hyundai Kona (1,169) and Audi e-tron (1,017). Of the total occasion export in the first half year (158,119 cars), 12.4 percent were fully electric.

‘Clear government policy is needed’

But why do so many electric cars actually disappear abroad? The BOVAG blames the government’s policy. “As long as that remains uncertain, consumers will postpone their purchase. It is clear, long -term agreements about it car taxes Needed to give confidence in second -hand electric driving. ”
