Helle Stars founder Lelle is dead – a tragedy in the 90s overshadowed the rest of her life

Lennart “Lelle” Hegland died at the age of 79.

Founding member and bassist of the Swedish band Hep Stars Lennart “Lelle” Hegland died Wednesday at the age of 79.

Lellen’s son Richard Segerman says his father died of a long-term illness.

Hep Stars was Sweden’s most popular band in the 60’s. Its a song Cadillac was a hit in Finland as well. The band’s other hits include Tribute to Buddy Holly and Farmer John.

The band was formed in 1963 and disbanded in 1973. Hep Stars made another comeback in the 80s.

Abban Benny Andersson joined a few years after its establishment.

Lelle’s life was overshadowed by an incident in September 1999. Lelle got caught up with the guards in Högdalen near Stockholm. The situation became violent and Lelle suffered a concussion that affected her speech, personality and memory for the rest of her life.
