After complex search operations, the helicopter that disappeared from radar on the afternoon of November 9th after taking off from Arezzo was identified. Its wreck, completely destroyed by flames, was spotted on the morning of November 10th in a wooded area in the mountainous area of Badia Tedalda, located on the border between the provinces of Arezzo and Pesaro Urbino at around a thousand meters above sea level. The two people on board died. They were Tuscan entrepreneurs: Mario Paglicci, 77 years old, from Arezzo, and Fulvio Casini, 67 years old, from Sinalunga (Siena). Both were experienced pilots and long-time friends. Given the inaccessible characteristics of the area and the unfavorable weather conditions, it took a long time to secure the area and recover the bodies. The rescue teams were sent by the Fire Brigade, Alpine Rescue, Red Cross, Air Force, Financial Police and Carabinieri.

Helicopter missing, two entrepreneurs dead

The aircraft, an Agusta Westland AW109, took off from the Serristori flight center in Castiglion Fiorentino (Arezzo). Before losing radio contact, around 3.30pm on Sunday, the pilots had reported an engine failure. They were flying over the Alpe della Luna, still between the two provinces. There was thick fog in the area. The helicopter was purchased by Paglicci this year. Mario Paglicci was a well-known entrepreneur in the goldsmith sector, owner of Gimet, a company of international importance. One of his two sons, Gianluca, was a Formula 3 driver. Fulvio Casini was the owner of Marta Immobiliare, a company active in the management of construction and real estate projects.
