FC Volendam has achieved a much-needed and important victory over Heracles Almelo. The direct competitor was sent back to Overijssel 3-0. One of the goals came from the foot of Aurelio Oehlers, who was still beaming afterwards.

The quick winger had to settle for coming on as a substitute, but scored beautifully. “I’ll only watch it again when I’m at home in bed,” reveals Oehlers, who has not yet seen the goal. “I already received some messages on my phone from friends and family members. They were happy for me and said it was a nice goal. I’ll take a look at the summary,” Oehlers smiles.

Before the match, the atmosphere in the stadium was brightened up by an atmospheric campaign with fireworks. “I was actually in shock. I thought it was a pity that I was on the bench, because it was nice to see. Something like that is always nice, especially when the supporters want to support you and we really appreciate that.”

“Really very nice and in any case the Hekside had us on edge this week,” adds trainer Rick Kruys. When the players and staff members of FC Volendam arrived at the dressing room, there was also a banner hanging. “Those people just give us something extra, very simple. They actually provided the motivation for me. At that moment it was easy.”

This way the smile returns for Kruys and Volendam. Logical too, after the defeats against Fortuna Sittard and FC Utrecht. “It is very nice that something has now come our way. We needed this for a while. You often play matches where things go well at times, but are not rewarded with points.”

No party for Rick Kruys

How will the coach celebrate this victory? “No, we’re going home and then I’m going to watch the images. We have to prepare for a tough week again with Wednesday (Quick Boys) and Saturday (Feyenoord). We already watched them today against RKAV Volendam, who already set a good example.”

FC Volendam will play against Quick Boys in the KNVB Cup next Wednesday from 6:45 PM. You can of course follow that match via our live blog on the site and in the app.
