Heinz Stuy takes Ajax’s first European Cup I with a security guard to De Kick-off

The first European cup that Ajax won in history can be seen on TV tonight in De Aftrap. Heinz Stuy, keeper of the team from Amsterdam, won the European Cup I, the predecessor of the Champions League, in 1971, 1972 and 1973. The resident of IJmuiden brought the Cup with the Big Ears, including a security guard. “I believe that cup is insured for 40,000 euros,” says Stuy, who can still look at Cup in love.

During the broadcast of De Kick-off, security guard Peter does not deviate for a moment from the Cup, which can only be touched with white gloves. “It’s silver plated. That malic acid on your hands affects that cup,” Stuy explains.

Only three players of Ajax’s basic team that defeated Panathinaikos in the final at Wembley are still alive. In addition to the 78-year-old Stuy, these are Sjaak Swart and Johan Neeskens. In the broadcast, the former Ajax goalkeeper shows a photo that was later taken of this trio with the Cup.

Paul de Long

The other guest at the table is Paul de Lange, who played football for Telstar and FC Volendam, among others. Until last year, the former midfielder was a trainer with the amateurs of De Kennemers from Beverwijk. At the moment, De Lange is not doing anything in football, but it is possible that he will do something in scouting at Telstar. “I think so. I don’t have the ambition to get back on the field at the moment.”

In this episode, Erik-Jan Brinkman takes on 4-time international Glenn Helder in Raak de Vlag.

You can see it all at 17.10 / 18.10 / 19.10 etc. on TV, but you can also watch the entire broadcast of De Kick-off below.
