Approaching farewell?

Goalkeeper Kevin Müller is missing from 1. FC Heidenheim’s matchday squad for the start of the year against 1. FC Köln. The measure increases speculation that the 34-year-old will leave soon, with Frank Feller, who has recovered from a long injury, moving to the bench as number two behind Diant Ramaj.
The long-standing goalkeeper Müller was demoted last summer, and even then there were reports about a possible move for the veteran to the North American MLS. Differences between the club and the professional team that were briefly aired publicly were quickly resolved, but Müller has not been used since then. With a view to a possible farewell, the goalkeeper recently told “Sport Bild”: “We are talking very openly with those responsible about my future. If something comes up that could be interesting for everyone involved, we will discuss it together. But that doesn’t mean that I want to leave for the world. My family and I have a lot in common with Heidenheim.”
Müller’s contract runs until 2027. “There are no concrete discussions. But if he wants to go, then he can go,” emphasized Heidenheim’s CEO Holger Sanwald on “Sky” on Saturday in the run-up to the home game against the Domstadt team. We have to see whether and which offers would come in in the coming weeks. With a view to the transfer window, the 58-year-old also repeatedly pointed out that the focus of the relegation-threatened Bundesliga club was on the offensive. However, financial resources are limited and it is not easy to attract players to the Brenz. But we are working on it.
Coach Frank Schmidt was quoted as follows in the “Heidenheimer Zeitung” on Friday with a view to possible new additions: “Not for tomorrow – but it may be that there are still one or two changes. The club is very busy, we are exploring all options and the team knows that we are keeping our eyes and ears open.”
