As expected, Hamburger SV has released right-back Silvan Hefti to Major League Soccer. DC United from the US capital Washington presented the 28-year-old Swiss on Thursday evening. The former U21 international has signed a contract until the summer of 2027 with an option for a further year. According to “Bild” and “Sky”, HSV will receive a small transfer fee of 150,000 euros for Hefti, who was brought from Genoa in 2024 for 1.5 million euros.
“Due to the great competition on the right side of the defense, it was not easy for Silvan to collect playing minutes in the current season,” said HSV sports director Claus Costa. “Therefore, a change makes sense for all parties. We would like to thank Silvan for his commitment to HSV and especially for his part in the promotion to the Bundesliga. We wish him all the best for his future.”
Hefti himself said: “Even though it was a comparatively short time for me at HSV, I will have positive memories of the year and a half. I will especially not forget the promotion last season. Those were very special moments for which I am very grateful. I wish the club and its great fans much success and that the club will achieve the desired relegation.”
The defensive man made 20 appearances for the HSV professional team, all in the 2024/25 promotion year, and one for the regional league reserves. He was not in the Bundesliga squad this season. During this time, Hefti’s market value in Hamburg fell from 2 million euros to currently 700,000 euros. Before him, Jonas Meffert (31, Holstein Kiel), Anssi Suhonen (25, Odense) and Daniel Peretz (25, loan canceled, now in Southampton) had already left the club. Gui Ramos (28), Emir Sahiti (27), Immanuel Pherai (24) and William Mikelbrencis (21, all information about the current PAOK rumor) could follow.
