Heerenveen coach Kees van Wonderen agrees with fans’ statement: ‘It is two to twelve’ | Dutch football

SC Heerenveen coach Kees van Wonderen feels the pressure increasing in the run-up to the match against Heracles Almelo on Saturday evening. The Frisians have not been able to win in the past seven matches and have fallen to fifteenth place in the Premier League.

“I saw that supporters have made a statement that it is five to twelve,” Van Wonderen said during a press moment. “I agree with that, maybe it’s even two to twelve. Then I am talking about our sporting situation and position in the rankings. The need and sense of urgency is there, because the differences in this competition are very small. If we want to get out of here, we have to get points.”

According to Van Wonderen, his team is in a situation you don’t want to be in. “There are all kinds of circumstances: some players arrived late and need time. But you cannot keep saying that you have to build, results also have to be achieved,” he believes.

Van Wonderen believes that the pressure on him as a trainer is also starting to increase. “You have to be that realistic. At a certain point you can no longer hide behind certain things,” he says. “If too few points are scored and the game is not sufficient, then as a coach I am responsible for that. Then it is up to the club to make a decision about that. I’m not about that. I am doing everything I can to turn things around, but I understand that at some point it can also stop.”
