Heavy fighting continues in Ukrainian city of Bachmut | Abroad

Heavy fighting continues today between Russian troops and Ukrainian fighters in Bachmut, the Ukrainian city at the center of current fighting in the east of the country. The attacks were again crushed, the General Staff in Kiev reports.

Ukrainian artillery hit Russian troops today in the village of Polovinkino in the Luhansk region. About 150 soldiers were killed or wounded, it sounds. A similar attack on Russian troops in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine killed about 50 soldiers and injured another 100, the general staff in Kiev said. The information could not be independently verified.

Bachmoet is on the front line. Russian soldiers have been trying to take the city since the summer, but Ukraine has so far been able to hold back the offensive. That offensive came at a heavy human cost for both camps. Incidentally, the city is of little strategic importance, but for the Russians it lies on the road to Kramatorsk and Slovjansk, and by extension the entire Donetsk region.

The damage in the city is enormous, and most of the inhabitants have fled. Before the invasion, Bachmoet had a good 70,000 inhabitants, but there are now about 10,000 left.
