Health insurers have already spent at least 3 million euros on the transfer of the practices of the bankrupt CO-MED to new GPs. The trustees inform Zorgvisie that the bill is still increasing.
The fact that the bill is still rising is caused by the variable compensation from the agreement between the health insurers and the bankrupt CO-MED. The fixed part is around a million, writes Care vision. The variable part was 2 million euros at the end of April and is still increasing.
In the variable part, the time that the trustees spend on the maintenance of part of the practices are reimbursed. Then it concerns, for example, maintaining the different systems and storing patient records.
Just after the bankruptcy, roughly a year ago, general practitioners had to be hired to provide care. For example, it turned out that the CO-MED bankruptcy no longer be staff who could administer vaccines.
What is Co-Med?
Co-Med is a commercial general practitioner chain that bought general practices throughout the country. The chain had many general practices in Brabant.
According to critics, the company only tried to earn as much money as possible. The inspection concluded last year that practices were not easily accessible and that too few skilled employees were available.
In June 2024 the practices of CO-Med were suddenly closed. The chain was declared bankrupt. Later it also turned out that CO-Medalgal general practices took over. For example, no approval was given for the acquisition of the practice in Bergen op Zoom. Co-Med took over the practice.
