Leo Suter from “Vikings: Valhalla” is said to be the new James Bond at Amazon MGM – and the actor himself is not ruling out the role. What’s behind it?

There are rumors again about a potential new Bond actor. Who is in the conversation this time? The answer can be found in a Netflix series.

Nothing concerns the British film industry as much as the question of who will be the next James Bond. After five Bond films with Daniel Craig, the role will be recast for the next sequel. Who gets to play the British secret agent next? The rumor mill has its own ideas.

Leo Suter in talks for the Bond role

After “No Time to Die,” creative control of the Bond films passed to Amazon MGM Studios – and they are now looking for a new face for the 007 agent. Leo Suter plays the Viking Harald Sigurdsson in the Netflix series “Vikings: Valhalla,” and according to the Daily Mail, his name was already being discussed at Amazon. When asked about the rumors, the actor told the Times that he thought it was possible – and that he wouldn’t say no.

Requirements for the new bond

So it’s a green light from Suter’s side – but does he actually meet the requirements for the new Bond? Casting director Nina Gold, who is jointly responsible for the Bond cast, comments on her selection criteria: It has to be someone who is bursting with sex appeal and can embody the role over at least three or four films. So the crucial condition: young. Added to this are the classic Bond criteria – British, good-looking and apparently still male.

Is there still hope for a female Bond?

Because a female Bond is discussed again and again. After “No Time to Die,” for example, it would have been a good idea to let James’ daughter Mathilde Swann become the new focus figure and continue telling her story. However, Barbara Broccoli, the former head of the franchise, had categorically ruled out a female Bond. There have so far only been internal memos about such a veto under the new Amazon management, but no official announcements.

As always, the rumors about the new Bond cannot be taken at face value. However, Leo Suter would fall into the profile of the classic secret agent.
