Peter Gillis doesn’t like being used for studio entertainment on SBS 6, just like Martien Meiland. “No, I’m busy here. I have to run a company,” he says.

Martien Meiland started at SBS 6 as the main character of the reality show Chateau Meiland, but can now also be seen in all kinds of studio shows, such as Wie van de Drie. Reality colleague Peter Gillis, known from Family Gillis: Massa is Kassa, does not listen to that. “No, I’ve been busy here. I have to run a company,” he says in the Playboy

Not for the money

Peter always keeps off entertainment TV. “I am asked to participate in programs, but I don’t,” said the holiday park owner.

He points out that the Meilandjes really see television as work. “I don’t have to do it for the money anyway, you know? The Meilandjes have to live on it, they have made it their job, but if the television adventure ends for me tomorrow, I will just continue living.”

On TV in five years?

Does Peter think he will still be on television in five years? “No, I do not think so. If the viewers continue to like it then it is of course difficult to stop, because then you have to disappoint a lot of people. But in five years… That’s a long time.”

He continues: “It looks like we want to continue for a while, but that also depends on SBS of course. For us it is not a must: if we no longer feel like it, we will stop.”

To adjust

One thing Peter would never do: adapt himself for TV. “New. I am just the way I am. If you put a thousand in a row, you’ll get me out in no time. I’m not going to adapt my own to people.”

“If someone disturbs that, they just press the button of another station, but they’ve all seen it. Do you understand? They are all watching.”
