HBL: Lemgo celebrates historic coup in Kiel

TBV Lemgo Lippe caused a big surprise in the Handball Bundesliga and celebrated the first win at THW Kiel in 20 years.

Lemgoer prevailed on Saturday with 33:32 (18:14). The best TBV thrower was Samuel Zehnder with nine hits. Nikola Bilyk scored six goals for Kiel in their second defeat of the season.

The guests started without much respect and didn’t let themselves be made nervous by a quick 0:2 deficit and initial problems on the offensive. At 4:3 (7th minute of the game) TBV right winger Lukas Zerbe, who will move to Kiel in 2024, provided the first lead for Lipper. Zehnder even extended Lemgo’s lead to six goals (16:10/25).

A big plus for the TBV was the compact defense in front of the strong goalkeeper Finn Zecher, who had made nine saves in the first half. But coach Florian Kehrmann’s team also played to the point in attack, took advantage of the opportunities that arose and went into the break with a well-deserved lead.

The North Germans started the second period with more aggression, but initially didn’t manage to reduce the gap to less than two goals. Eight minutes before the end, Steffen Weinhold from Kiel saw the red card after his third time penalty.

The THW came close to 32:33, but it wasn’t enough for more. After 26:21 over SG Flensburg-Handewitt, Lemgo now also defeated the second top club from the north.
