Hat-trick hero Steven Bergwijn the big man at swinging Ajax against FC Groningen

Ajax has easily dealt with FC Groningen in a swinging match. The team from Amsterdam won 6-1 in the Johan Cruijff Arena. Steven Bergwijn was the big man on the Amsterdam side with three goals.

At Ajax, the weekly question for trainer Alfred Schreuder is how the vanguard is designed. Against FC Groningen, the coach chose Steven Bergwijn, Brian Brobbey and Antony and Dusan Tadic started at ten. The machine quickly turned, because Steven Bergwijn scored the first goal of the afternoon within five minutes.

It seemed that Ajax was on its way to a big result, but out of nowhere FC Groningen equalized after ten minutes of play. Cyril Ngonge cut Owen Wijndal out and placed the ball in the far corner behind goalkeeper Remko Pasveer: 1-1. Ajax was not impressed by the equalizer and continued to look for goals.

Anthony

Antony was dangerous a number of times and in the 28th minute he made it 2-1. With a beautiful shot into the top corner he gave Ajax the lead. Steven Bergwijn shot the 3-1 against the ropes just before half time. He controlled a pass from Devyne Rensch well, after which he didn’t hesitate for a moment and chased the ball impeccably hard against the ropes.

Even after the break, the attacking drive of Schreuder’s team continued. Steven Bergwijn had his hat-trick with a nice shot into the far corner: 4-1. Kenneth Taylor was allowed to make the fifth for Ajax halfway through the second half after key point Brian Brobbey put the ball ready for the midfielder.

Lucca’s debut

The big lead gave Schreuder the opportunity to make substitutions. As a result, Lorenzo Lucca made his debut with the team from Amsterdam. Although the eagerness disappeared from the team, Ajax received a penalty just before time after a handball from Määttä. Substitute Steven Berghuis therefore also took his goal in the 6-1 victory.

Ajax is in the lead in the Eredivisie after two shared victories. Just like PSV, the team from Amsterdam has six points and exactly the same goal difference. Next Sunday at 2.30 PM, the team will visit Sparta Rotterdam.

Ajax setup: Pasveer, Rensch, Timber, Blind, Wijndal; lvarez, Taylor (Klaassen/74), Tadic (Kudus/83); Antony, Bergwijn (Berghuis/74); Brobbey (Lucca/74)
