Harsh fan criticism after price explosion at DAZN

The drastic price increase for the streaming service and Bundesliga rights holder “DAZN” causes incomprehension and displeasure among German football fans. A huge majority of 96.6 percent of those surveyed feared that the development would alienate them from football.

The voting platform FanQ asked more than 2,000 football fans in Germany on the subject on behalf of “SID”. “DAZN” had doubled the prices for new subscription customers from February 1st.

79.4 percent stated that they were surprised at the extent of the increase, while at the same time 92.3 percent of the participants considered the new price of 29.99 euros to be far too high.

96.6 percent of those surveyed no longer see football as accessible to all fans if the total sum for football on TV is over 60 euros a month. For 65.3 percent of the survey participants it is clear that they will now cancel their subscription with the provider.

The fairest price from the fans’ point of view is up to 15 euros for the current streaming service offer. Around 49 percent stated that they were willing to pay this price. Up to 20 euros still seems appropriate for 28 percent. 13.5 percent of those who took part in the survey, on the other hand, are only willing to pay up to ten euros.
