Harry Veenstra has been collecting the charts for decades

Cupboards full of charts and piles of billboards. The floor of the attic even had to be reinforced for it. “You have to be sure that the construction can bear the weight.” It is therefore not a small collection that Harry Veenstra has in his attic in Emmen. Since 1974 he has been collecting the music charts.

“It is indeed getting a bit cramped,” he says, looking at the cupboard full of folders. Each folder has a sticker with a year, which contains all charts. A folder with the latest of this year doesn’t really fit anymore. “I have 1,900 of these lists.”

The collection started in October 1974. “Then I walked into a record store in Emmen and picked up the first one”, he says about the beginning of his collection. Now, almost fifty years later, he has completed almost all volumes. “It is a beautiful collection, although the special is a little off.”
