Just before the start of the important English weeks, Bayern coach Kompany announced the loss of a top star. How long he will be missing is still unclear.
“Hiroki Itō is not there, Alphonso Davies is not there,” said Kompany about the already known failures of the record champions and then added: “And Harry Kane is not there.” Kane “got a blow to his calf and hasn’t recovered yet,” the Bayern coach continued. Given Bayern’s comfortable eleven-point lead over Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, Kompany can probably get over the loss against Gladbach.
It would hit him and Bayern much harder if Kane were to miss the important first leg of the Champions League round of 16 at Atalanta Bergamo on Tuesday (9 p.m., in the live ticker on t-online).
“It’s just a blow, it’s nothing serious for the near future, but we’re maybe one day short of him being able to take part,” said Kompany, referring to the Gladbach game. When asked about a possible Kane appearance in the Champions League, the coach added that it was assumed that the top striker would be available again by then: “You can see my body language, I’m pretty relaxed – we’re pretty relaxed. Of course we would have liked Harry there now. But that can happen.”
Captain Manuel Neuer returns to the squad against Gladbach. “Manu is fit,” said Kompany. Neuer suffered a torn fiber in his left calf in the game against Werder Bremen on February 14th (3-0) and was substituted at half-time. Because of the injury, he recently missed the duel with Eintracht Frankfurt (3:2) and the classic at Borussia Dortmund (3:2).
