Harris Reed joins Nina Ricci as creative director

Harris Reed, 26, has been appointed creative director of Nina Ricci, the French fashion house reports on its website. This makes Reed the youngest designer to date to hold this position at the fashion house, which was founded in 1932. In 2020 he graduated from Central Saint Martins in London.

Since then, Reed has built a reputation for his theatrical fashion moments, a fact he proved once again with a show at the last London Fashion Week in which opera played a central role. His designs have been worn in the past by celebrities such as Alessandro Michele, Emma Watson, Harry Styles and Lil Nas X, among others. The designer is expected to unveil his first Ricci collection early next year, offering “new perspectives on the house’s archives and lifetime of craftsmanship,” according to a statement on Wednesday.

Pioneer of gender-fluid fashion

Known for pioneering gender-fluid fashion, Reed is expected to focus on gender-neutral designs like Botter. In the statement, she said: “I look forward to challenging the landscape of what femininity in fashion and beauty means in such an iconic house.”

Former creative directors of Nina Ricci, Lisi Herrebrugh and Rushemy, the Dutch designers behind fashion brand Botter, left their positions at the French fashion house earlier this year to continue to focus on Botter. “After 3.5 years at the creative helm of Nina Ricci, we have jointly decided to end the partnership,” the statement said on Instagram at the time. “We think this is the right time to give our full attention at Botter, which is now entering a new, exciting time and what we will be taking to the next level.”
