Van Gerwen only had one chance at a double against Humphries and only got an average of 90.4. That was in stark contrast to his performance earlier on Sunday.
Then he made an impression by sending former world champion Rob Cross home 6-3. He finished that match by throwing out 126 and his average was excellent with 103.7.
The Dutchman also performed very well in his match against MichKeegan Brown. Against the number 64 of the Order of Merit, Van Gerwen quickly faced a 4-0 lead and he did not relinquish that margin. Also in this match his average was good: 102.58.
Plaisier stranded in the last eight. The Dutchman showed himself excellently throughout the tournament with a victory over world top Joe Cullen and he also dealt well with Dirk van Duijvenbode. Humphries finally stopped Plaisier (5-6).
