Second division club FC Hansa Rostock officially confirmed the signing of Icelandic center forward Sveinn Aron Gudjohnsen from Swedish runners-up IF Elfsborg on Thursday evening. Hansa is reportedly paying a low six-figure fee for the 25-year-old, who was already a topic in Rostock in the summer. Gudjohnsen signed a contract until 2026.

The 1.89 meter tall left-footer was already missing from Elfsborg’s training opener on Thursday in order to complete the obligatory medical check on the Baltic Sea. Rostock is the sixth stop outside of his home country for the offensive force, who played for FC Barcelona in his youth and has appeared 20 times for the national team to date. The son of former Chelsea professional Eidur Gudjohnsen has scored twelve goals in 70 Allsvenskan games since 2021.

“With Sveinn Gudjohnsen we are signing a player who we were already focusing on during the summer transfer period. We are all the more pleased that the commitment has now worked out. “Thanks to his complete profile as a center and wall striker, we are positioning ourselves more broadly in order to be well prepared for the fight to stay in the league in the second half of the season,” explained sports director Kristian Walter.

The Icelander is the first signing at Hansa in the current transfer window. Coach Mersad Selimbegovic remained tight-lipped about transfers at a press conference on Thursday morning: “As far as the new arrivals are concerned, there is nothing to report yet. We keep our eyes and ears open. But everyone knows that the market in winter is not so easy on these positions.”
