It was scary for Hans van der Togt when he woke up last year after his light stroke: he couldn’t move anything anymore. A month later he became unwell on his houseboat and was in the hospital for a week. “Fortunately, nothing had been broken, otherwise I would have been out of the running for longer,” he now says in an extensive interview with the Story.

No damage

Hans currently not notices the TIA, which made him hit. “There is no secondary damage, say. Not from the Tia and not the fall. The only thing that is difficult is that I have to go to the toilet a lot at night. Although that will have to do with the fact that I am older and be treated for prostate cancer in 2013.”

That prostate cancer was accidentally discovered at the time when he was admitted to an addiction clinic, where they had to test his blood. After his release, he has remained from the drink for years.

One bottle of wine

Nowadays Hans has been drinking for some time, but in moderation, he says in the magazine. “I swallow blood thinners every day because of those Tia. And yes, I drink. That is my pleasure. I drink about a bottle of wine a day. I know it is not good in combination with the blood thinners, but I don’t want to give it up.”

He concludes: “I do make sure that I am not going to drink that bottle a day. I used to do that. At that time I drank at least double. I don’t want that anymore and I can keep it happy.”

Well, hat off.
