Last year he led Hannover-Burgdorf into the top group of the Bundesliga. Now Christian Prokop has to vacate his coaching position.

Handball Bundesliga team TSV Hannover-Burgdorf has separated from its coach Christian Prokop prematurely. The club confirmed a corresponding “Bild” report. His successor will be former Spanish national coach Juan Carlos Pastor. The 57-year-old was actually only supposed to take over the “Recken” after this season.

“We believed in the existing constellation until the end. However, with the impressions of the situation at the turn of the year, we came to the conclusion that we cannot achieve a good end by sticking to the constellation,” said sporting director Sven-Sören Christophersen about the separation from Prokop.

Most recently, Lower Saxony only played a draw against newly promoted Minden.

The club had already announced in November that it would not extend the expiring contract with the 47-year-old Prokop. The change of coach has now been brought forward by half a year.

Prokop had trained the Lower Saxony team since 2021. Last season he led the team to the top flight of the Bundesliga. Hanover is currently only in ninth place.

Before his involvement in Hanover, Prokop was Germany’s national coach between 2017 and 2020, but had mixed success there.
