Hannover 96 extended with Julian Börner: From 2024 as in the 2nd team

Whereabouts was a “big wish”

Hannover 96 has extended the contract with veteran Julian Börner until the summer of 2025. Until then, the 32-year-old will not be part of the professional team. For the 2024/25 season, the central defender will move into the second team in the Regionalliga Nord as captain.

“Julian Börner and I have had several good conversations over the past few days and weeks about what his role at Hannover 96 might look like in the near future, but above all in terms of perspective. I think we have reached a very fitting agreement. We are very happy that ‘Börni’ will stay with us at the club – both on and with his positive manner off the pitch,” said 96 sporting director Marcus Mann.

Börner came to Hanover from Sheffield Wednesday from England in 2021 and is part of the permanent staff of the second division team this season. He started 22 times in 29 possible games. “My family and I feel incredibly comfortable in Hanover. That’s why it was my big wish to stay at 96 beyond the end of the season. We spoke openly about how I can help the club in the future. I can identify 100 percent with the role that we found. In the coming season, I’ll give it my all again with the pros and at the same time I’m very grateful for the prospects in the 96 Academy and the trust in me. I’m looking forward to the future at this club, which I’ve grown very fond of.”
