Handball tradition: Volendam kicks off in mother Agatha Duin’s living room

For years, Agatha Duin’s living room has been the starting point for the handball players of Volendam. At every home game, the men receive a cup of coffee and a pastry. “Let’s create the team feeling,” said Volendam player Leon Geus.

Schellekens and Geus stop

At the end of the season, quite a few players leave Volendam. Goalkeeper Dennis Schellekens and corner player Leon Geus also stop at the orange shirts. “I will play my last game for Volendam. I’ll see what comes after that, but these are my last games in the Netherlands,” said Schellekens.

“Hopefully I can now close it with a good feeling”

Geus wanted to stop last year, but because of corona there was not a nice goodbye. Therefore, he decided to continue for one more season. “Hopefully I can now close it with a good feeling.”

On Sunday, Volendam played its first game in the best-of-three series against Aalsmeer. NH Sport followed the team closely and made the above report.
