The handball players of the Thuringian HC were clearly behind in the Supercup – and cheered against HSG Blomberg -Lippe in the end.

The Thuringian HC accomplished a real handball miracle in the HBF supercup and secured the first title of the season after 60 gripping minutes. The team of coach Herbert Müller turned a nine goal behind and prevailed against HSG Blomberg-Lippe with 31:30 (10:14). The best throwers of the THC were Rikke Hoffbeck Petersen and Johanna Reichert with nine goals each.

THC completely misses the start

The THC got off to a very difficult start in the Munich SAP Garden. From the beginning, the team from Herbert Müller ran afterwards because the HSG took advantage of its chances: Ona Vegue Pena opened the dominant initial phase with two successful seven meters (2nd/4th), Nieke Kühne increased to 5: 2 and Andrea Jacobsen a little later with a spin (13th) against THC keeper Laura Kuske. After 20 minutes it was already 13: 4, also because HSG goalkeeper Nicole Roth kept bringing the Thuringian women to despair. Overall, the Müller team looked too troublesome.

A time penalty against Sharon Nooitmeer (25th) seemed to lead the next low – but then the best phase followed before the break: Kuske parried strongly several times, and at the front, hits from Reichert and Co. ensured a 6: 1 run until half -time. With the 14: 8, the THC had fought back into the game and pulled the momentum on its side.

No more holding in the second round

Even after the break, the Thuringians did not subside. A few seconds after the restart, Reichert brought her team back into the game by goal (31st), a little later she even equalized from the seven -meter point to 17:17 (38th). However, the HSG demonstrated morality and was initially not put off by the playful lead: two quick goals for 19:17 seemed to stabilize the game.

But at the latest with Csenge Kuczora’s hit for the first tour (45./21:20), the game finally overturned. The THC was no longer to be broken: five minutes before the end, Herbert Müller’s team expanded the lead to 28:25. Although it became tight again on paper, the HSG’s late hits, but the THC brought the lead under the line confidently over time and after a true monster comeback secured the fourth supercup title after 2015, 2016 and 2018.
