Valur, the champion of Iceland and current defender of the European Cup, has come from the tube for VZV. “It will be Iceland for me the first time,” laughs Janssen. “For us it is fantastic to play handball against such an opponent. We had to go against Ionias last year, but then I already hoped for an opponent from Iceland. That country breathes handball culture.”
Italy
For the men of HV Volendam there are again competitions in the European Cup on the program. They too have a new destination: Italy. Cassano Magnago HC is the opponent.
“That is something different than Eastern block and Central Europe,” responds trainer Geert Hinskens. “Italy is slightly more unknown than a handball country, but a country on the rise. There is also a few internationals from Italy in this team. It is a slightly more favorable draw compared to the past years.”
