After the clear first leg victory, the Füchsen Berlin in the second leg is a draw against Kielce to move into the quarter -finals of the Champions League in handball. The progress was expensive with two injuries.

The Foxes Berlin has reached the quarter-finals of the handball champions League for the first time in 13 years. The runner -up for the outstanding world handball player Mathias Gidsel was enough for an 37:37 (21:24) against Industria Kielce on Wednesday From the first leg (33:27) enforce.

During the game, the foxes had to cope with the failures of ex-international Fabian Wiede, who injured his back during a defense campaign, and DHB professional Tim Freihofer.

In the fight for participation in the final Four in Cologne (June 14/15), Aalborg HB’s Danish Starren ensemble is now waiting for the team of coach Jaron Siewert at the end of the month.

High pace from the start

The Foxes Berlin defensively started the encounter and went 2: 4 behind after three minutes. However, Mathias Gidsel made a first climax after five minutes, scored the 3: 4 connection goal and at the same time provoked the first two-minute penalty for Kielce. An action that brought the Max-Schmeling-Halle to a boil for the first time and registered the fox in the game. So a balanced balance of power developed – after ten minutes it was 9: 9 thanks to mutual litter rates and diverse attack patterns.

In the 11th minute, Gidsel put the Berliners into the lead for the first time with his 100th Champions League goal (11:10). The world handball player presented himself in an outstanding constitution from the kick -off, shoulder his offensive responsibility, despite the close man cover, confidently.

However, the Polish opponent kept up very well and the result is permanently tight. No team was able to break away in a rapid exchange of blows without breaks and tacts, after 20 minutes it was already 16:15. Up to here, the attackers and not the defensive series could shine. The goalkeepers were also hardly a factor.

Two serious injuries weaken the foxes

A drop of bitterness for the lively encounter was the violation of Foxes capacity Fabian Wiede, who could no longer participate after a few minutes due to back problems and severe pain. In the last ten minutes of the first round, the two defensive rows now focused more on their compactness and tougher duel guidance.

The resulting fouls, time penalties and injury breaks disrupted the rhythm of the game for the first time, and the gates no longer fell every second. Berlin’s Tim Feihöfer also had to leave the field injured after 25 minutes after he was unhappily kinked when landing. The serious failures had an effect on the foxes that became more careless. Kielce won the first half with 24:21.

An intensive Struggle for wear

The first minutes of the second round came less. The goalkeepers collected significantly more parades than in the first 45 minutes, the rows of defense stood. After the first five minutes, only three goals scored, the foxes had a mentally more solid and shortened to 24:25. A real momentum developed for the combative-strong home team that Kielce hardly left in front of his own goal and after 41 minutes by a converted seven meter for 28:28 equalization.

Now no longer wanted to stop in the second half. Kielce tried to equalize the first leg, but the foxes remained poisonous and concentrated. An intensive wear and tear developed, in which little things were decided, the teams rarely separated more than two points and the clock hit the capitals.

Foxes goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev became more and more a factor in the final quarter of an hour through good parades-it became tough for Kielce who troubled to develop dynamics against the passionately defending foxes. The construction of their attacks took longer and longer, they lacked the clear ideas against the Berlin Block. After 50 minutes it was 33:31 for the Poles.

Kielce’s double error decides the game

However, it was felt that the foxes gradually went out. They were only able to set a few of their own accents on the offensive and left their own ball ownership phases unused. In the event of all defense efforts, relief and their own hits were missing. Seven minutes before the end of the game, Kielce led 35:31, it became delighted for the foxes.

But only briefly, because around the 55th minute there was a decisive double mistake of the Poles, which lost the ball twice without a goalkeeper, so that the foxes only had to throw in after the two balls – and thus shortened to 35:36. The visibly drained Berliners now also got a second air thanks to their own fans and took the lead two minutes before the end with 37:36. Kielce was visibly struck after the double error, could no longer create a penetration and only score the goal to 37: 37 final score.
